Allen was originally established as a railroad water stop in the 1870's and just 30 years ago only 625 people inhabited this Collin County town. Today, the community is experiencing its all-time fastest rate of growth for residential and business development, with 66,846 residents. By 2010, Allen is projected to exceed 89,000 residents. According to the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), these figures will make Allen the fastest growing city in north Texas during the next fifteen years.

Although Allen is known as a relatively affluent area, the small-town texture is retained through such efforts as the popular Christmas parade that attracts hundreds of people to the community.

The Allen Independent School District is nationally recognized for its curriculum and technology initiatives. The school district serves approximately 15,000 students in 11 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, a freshman center and a state-of-the-art high school. In addition to educational opportunities for high school students, the new Allen High School also serves adults with an on-sites satellite campus of Collin County Community College.

High academic standards and a challenging curriculum helped earn Allen ISD recognized status by the State of Texas in 2002. The district is nationally recognized for its technology partnerships with major corporations such as the INTEL, IBM and Microsoft as well as the US Department of Education.
